The Bible and the Valentine's of the World

Aim: It aims to give proper understanding to young people whose final authority is the KJV Bible.

Brief History: The current February 14 Valentine's day celebration has its pagan roots. The origin of this celebration copied from the Feast of Lupercalia, a pagan festival of love. The festival was the easiest way to have a partner. Men will draw the names of women placed in the box and became their sexual partners. In 496 A.D. Pope Gelasius decided to end the feast of Lupercalia and declared February 14 would be a celebration of St. Valentine Day. In 270 A.D. Emperor Claudius II prison and beheaded Valentine, a priest, because of what he did against the government of Rome. In 1969, Roman Catholic removed his name and this celebration from the General Roman Calendar.

Comparison: Bible against Valentine's Day

1. Valentine's day promotes WORLDLY TRADITION, philosophy, and practice that contradicts the Word of God. Bible warns us possible damage to the worldly tradition of men.

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

2. Valentine's day promotes FORNICATION, a sexual relationship outside marriage. Bible commanded us to flee fornication. Fornication is a SIN against God and your own body.

1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

3. Valentine's day influences us TO LUST. It refers to the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. Bible commanded us to fight all these lusts which are present in the world.

1 John 2:16 KJV For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

How to celebrate biblical LOVE?

1. Love Jesus (God). In Mark 12:30, God commanded (first commandment) us to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. We can display our love to God by keeping His word. In doing so, God the Father and Jesus will dwell in our life (John 14:23).

2. Love Others. In Mark 12:31, God also commanded (second commandment) to love others the same with loving our self. One must believe and receive Jesus Christ as Lord and personal Savior to avail the eternal life and becomes a child of God. The children of God know God and can extend their love to others (1 John 4:7).

3. Love Yourself. In Proverbs 19:8, God also commanded us to love our self (third commandment) by getting wisdom and keeping understanding. We show our love to our person by denying all its worldliness (Luke 9:23) and walking into good works (Ephesians 2:10).

Following God's command in celebrating biblical LOVE will always end up great JOY.

Love “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16 Today, we focused on our verse. Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate love, but did you know John 3:16 could be positioned in such...Read More
